The practice of Biodynamic work allows the body's own natural healing forces to restore balance and vitality within the person. It is based upon the osteopathic principles which Andrew Taylor Still, MD taught in the late 1800s. The Biodynamic approach to osteopathy was developed by James Jealous, DO who, after dedicating his life to studying these principles and the work of the embryologist Erich Blechschmidt, gave paramount importance to the acknowledgment of "a higher wisdom at work and to sense, rather than palpate, as the soul of osteopathy". Dr. Jealous recognized the parallels between Blechschmidt’s work and the work of Dr. Still and Dr. Sutherland. He saw that embryology provided a foundation, not only for our understanding of anatomy and physiology, but also for our understanding of osteopathic principles. He observed that the forces of embryologic development did not cease functioning at birth, but were maintained throughout our lives as forces of growth and development, and were also involved in healing processes.
Trying to explain how Biodynamic mind and bodywork treatments boost the healing process is like attempting to explain the working mechanism of the universe. Humans, and all beings, are intimately connected with nature and this relationship is at the heart of the Biodynamic concept. This relationship we have with the natural world around us can be observed more closely with the study of embryology. The development of the embryo, its rhythm and gentle movements, are synchronized with the "Breath of Life". The "Breath of Life" is the name that Dr. Sutherland gave to what Dr. Still explained was the "higher wisdom at work within the living human".
In Dr. Jealous' words: "Within the Dynamic Stillness we are healed without process or time. From the Breath of Life a new living matrix is created in each moment. The Tide brings us the power of Life and "feeds" us. The fluids respond, lawfully balancing the power of life and skillfully 'driving' the continuum towards perfect proportion." The Biodynamic approach assists the Health to fully express itself in the human body. It is the goal of the biodynamic practitioner to concentrate on the health in the patient, not on the disease.
Biodynamic osteopathy is great for the treatment of many conditions, including pain, anxiety, and dizziness among many others. The ability to heal varies from person to person. Unfortunately, by the time people come to osteopathy, the condition has been present for a long time. Biodynamic osteopathy treatments work in a very gentle way and with time and patience you will be able to enjoy their benefits.
Healing Breath provides biodynamic osteopathic treatments but it is not an alternative to your medical provider. We do not prescribe medications or give medical advice. You should continue your medical care with your PCP.
The treatment is very gentle. You will lay on the treatment table and the practitioner will place her hands on different parts of your body. You may not feel anything but the treatment is in motion.
